MONDAY 13th JULY 2020
We have partnered with the Kilombero Valley Ornithological centre to help you Virtually Explore Africa! Gather your Scout, Guide or Youth group together and explore Tanzania from your own home.
In a world where travel is less accessible than ever, plans, adventures, and trips have been cancelled. For our small business, things have changed – the travel side of things has been put on pause and our shop is a little quieter than usual. We have been excited to adapt our business and now launch our virtual tours – our way of connecting you with remote places in the world in your own home. Our friends at the Kilombero Valley Ornithological Centre (KVOC) in Tanzania were keen to join the project.
Virtually Explore Africa!
Types of Tour
Group Tours for Scouts, Guides and Youth Groups
We are now running tours for youth, Scout and Guide groups throughout the UK! Our tour covers the conservation work that KVOC carries out in the Kilombero Valley, their work with their local villagers and schools, and animal tracking in remote areas that aren’t safari/game parks. With a Swahili lesson and an animal tracking game.
We are continuing to take bookings for youth groups throughout the summer and into autumn. A Younger Adventurers Tour in the works as I write this, aimed at children aged 6 – 11 years. This tour will include life in Tanzania, culture and food and interactive games about Tanzanian wildlife. We will hopefully be launching in the next couple of weeks.
It’s been a pleasure to see young people getting excited about conservation work, asking really awesome questions and encouraging them to head out to Tanzania to volunteer!
Public Tour – Wednesday 12th August, 19:30-21:00
We have our first public tour on Wednesday 12th August. This is a similar presentation to our group tours, but with a more in-depth question and answer session – a unique opportunity to talk to Sebastian from KVOC. Tickets are £12.50 and by purchasing a ticket you will be entered into our raffle for a chance to win a Lonely Planet Travel Guide for a destination of your choice and a Luckies Scratch Map.
It would be great to welcome you to our evening of conservation and animal tracking in Tanzania with Sebastian.
How do these tours support KVOC?
The Kilombero Valley Ornithological Centre relies on donations, tourists and volunteers to help them carry out their work to educate their community, surveying and protecting their endemic species. Unfortunately for KVOC, volunteers have been cancelling their trips and tourism is almost non-existent. These tours allow the KVOC team to showcase their work and why they do what they do, shining a light on their organisation and why the area they are located in is such a special and unique area in Tanzania. The money raised through these tours is going back to helping KVOC continue what they are doing and so they are ready and waiting to welcome tourists and volunteers when travel is possible again.
